Chapter 11 Everything I Say Will Be Futile

“You’re responsible.” Marie looked at her and curled her red lips. “There are about 100 to 200 employees in Dream Club. If arguments like this keep happening, it’ll be best if we just stop operating. Why don’t you work in the cleaning department from now on? You’re not needed to welcome the guests anymore. The company will make new arrangements for your accommodation. You won’t argue so much if you don’t see each other that much, am I right?” After she said that, Marie looked at Sophia to see her reaction. After all, welcoming the guests was a job for young ladies. Basically, only middle-aged women who got laid off would work in the cleaning department. It was a dirty, tiring, and exhausting job. Unfortunately, Sophia’s expression did not change. She only grunted a reply and did not say anything. Marie was slightly disappointed. She lifted her eyebrows and asked, “Don’t you have anything to say?” Sophia shook her head. “For me, as long as the job pays me, there’s not much difference. Plus, Mr. Harris said that everything I say will be futile. Why should I make him unhappy?” Marie started to be impressed by her. She started laughing carefreely. “Since you have no opinions on this matter, then go report yourself after you pack.” “Okay, thank you, Marie.” After she watched Sophia go back to her dorm, Marie pondered for a while in the corridor. Eventually, she took out her phone and made a call. The call went through immediately. “Yeah? What’s wrong?” “I transferred her to the cleaning department as per your wish.” Charles was reading through his documents while listening to Marie. His hand that was flipping the pages stopped mid-air, and he asked in a low voice, “What was her reaction?” “She did not make a fuss. She accepted it calmly.” “Really?” He frowned and rubbed his hurting temples. He said, “If that’s the case, give her some appropriate work. She’s considered young in the cleaning department. It’s only right and proper for her to do more work.” Marie hesitated slightly. “Mr. Harris, aren’t you being a bit cruel? She’s just a young lady…” Charles did not say anything, but Marie realized that she was talking too much without needing to be told. She felt her heart tighten. She changed the topic. “Right, the young master of Qingfeng Estate is coming over for his birthday party next Monday. Will you be here?” “Yeah.” “I’ll prepare the alcohol you like.” “Just arrange it as you see fit.” After he hung up, Charles focused on the document in front of him once again. However, he could not register any words. She did not make a fuss and accepted it calmly? Heh, Sophia kept on changing his outlook on her. He refused to believe that her personality since young would change in just two years. He wanted to see how long she could keep on pretending. … “Hey, the soap in the woman’s toilet is finished. Hurry up and refill it. Do I have to do everything?” Sophia had just finished cleaning a room that was left behind by guests who were drinking. She spent the entire afternoon just to clean the vomit. In the end, she was so worn out that she could not even straighten her back. When she was about to sit down and drink some water, the patrolling person in charge called her again. “You’re not observant at all. Are your eyes for decoration only?” The person in charge was hurling abuses at her, but Sophia ignored all of them. She took the soap and walked into the woman’s toilet. She had been in the cleaning department for one week. She did not need to show herself to the public again, so she was not worried that she would get recognized by the guests while she was welcoming them. Despite the exhaustion, at least she was free from the anxiety. She changed the soap in a hurry and walked out of the toilet with the cleaning supplies. However, the mean person in charge was standing by the door waiting for her. “You’re done, right? If you’re done, go help out at the rooftop.” “Rooftop?” Sophia remembered that an important guest had booked the rooftop to hold a birthday party. She frowned and said, “It’s already 8:30 pm. It’s time for me to get off my shift. Plus, I haven’t eaten for the entire day…” “Why?” When the person in charge heard that Sophia did not want to go, he raised his voice and said sharply, “We’re short-handed, and you want to go eat? Did the company hire you so that you can choose not to work during urgent moments? If that’s the case, you should have told Marie earlier and let her arrange something else for you!” Telling Marie would mean telling Charles. She felt her heart tightening. “Don’t tell Marie. I’ll go now. Don’t get mad.” “Don’t think I can’t control you. Hurry, don’t waste time dilly-dallying.”
