Chapter 62
AURORA.
The morning arrived with its usual routine, but today held a subtle shift in the air. Getting ready for work, I thought about seeing Nathaniel today after the chaos of yesterday and wondered if the awkwardness I currently felt would be palpable. I had no idea what he expected of me and truly, I did not know what I expected of myself. But I was still his employee and I couldn’t slack just because I’d found out my boss was my husband.
As I stepped outside my building, somehow, I wasn’t surprised to find Nathaniel leaning against his sedan waiting for me. Still, his presence sent a ripple of anticipation and uncertainty through me. There was a certain awkwardness that hung between us, a consequence of the unspoken questions and unresolved emotions as a result of yesterday’s revelations. It was as if the weight of our situation had become tangible, and I found myself fidgeting slightly, my fingers nervously adjusting the strap of my bag on my shoulder.
