Chapter 40
AURORA.
Once we got to the office, I quickly immersed myself in the day’s work. I had been away for about a week and there was so much to catch up on. Thankfully, Doris and I had kept in touch and she had sent me some emails over the past week to update myself on the recent happenings around the office. I had gone through them, which was how I had been able to brief Nathaniel this morning on the ride to the office.
Speaking of Nathaniel, I thought he was really sweet earlier when he apologized for not figuring out how tired I was. Even though I felt like I did not deserve the apology, it was still nice to know that he cared about my well-being beyond work. He made me feel valued and special and I liked it.
However, I could not stop thinking about how earnest his apology had been and how it had felt like he had really been speaking about something else. His eyes had shone with vulnerability and sincerity and I had almost been tempted to ask him if everything was okay.
