AURORA. The hospital room was dimly lit, and the quiet hum of medical equipment filled the air as I sat by my grandmother's bedside. Tubes and monitors surrounded the small figure on the bed, a stark reminder of the gravity of Abuela’s condition. She looked better than when I’d seen her in Mexico a couple of days ago, and even though the doctor had assured me that she was fine and recuperating quickly, it still did not ease the tension that had curled and grown inside me.
