CHAPTER THIRTY NINE BREATHE
JADE’S POV
"I know it'll sound cliché, but it's not what you think," he tells me, stopping when he gets close enough to rest his hand on the wall beside my head. I scoff at him and shake my head before I stare back at him. "Either way, it's none of my business, so you don't need to explain," I reply, pushing myself off the wall, but he pushes me back softly before I even have the chance to walk away. "I can tell you're upset," he retorts, brushing my hair out of my face softly. I slap his hand away and respond, "I'm not," a little too enthusiastically to be accurate, and sigh.
"Okay," he tells me, still unconvinced, but he doesn't push, and I'm slightly relieved by that. "Have you had dinner?" He continues, and I'm honest enough to tell him that I've lost my appetite, and strangely, he doesn't try to make me eat like he's been doing since I got here. "Good night then," I mutter and motion for him to take his hand down so I can leave, but he doesn't move. "Mr. Miller, can you..."
