CHAPTER 282 OBLIVION
Hudson sat in his office chamber, restless.
He couldn’t shake the unease he felt from the conversation he had with Claire early this morning.
Fragments of the scenario kept replaying in his mind, like her defiant face, which contradicted her vulnerable voice when she spoke. It was another new version of Claire.
And he feared for the ones he’s yet to see.
The moment that stuck to him was the promise she made last night. A promise that hung between him and her like an invisible thread, pulling them closer even as she fought to maintain distance.
He knew it was the mate bond that became stronger after they slept with each other.
The space was cold and sterile, a sharp contrast to the heated tension that had filled his bedroom the night before.
There wasn’t much to do today except his meeting with Dame Hortense about the academy and their preparation for the Autumn Moonball.
When he heard a knock on the door, he checked the time. She was punctual as ever, not a minute past or late.
