Chapter 19 EIGHTEEN
MORGIANA'S POV
Even though I'm a hybrid, I still have the right to freak out. The room--his office was not very big and his wolf form is massive. I had to press my back onto the wall just so I won't get hit by his tail or something.
I've seen him in his wolf form before and I remembered feeling so terrified that my knees went weak. I remember running and being chased by him. But at that time, it was dark and I couldn't see it clearly. Now, under the office light, I could see how his eyes went from amber to almost golden. And his ruff...his ruff was probably the smoothest I have ever seen. Not that I've seen many but his colors were mixed enough that I couldn't stop staring. They were grey and black.
"Hop on," he said and I jolted from where I was standing. I forgot he could do that: communicating to me through his mind.
But then I realized what he wanted me to do.
"I'm sorry what?"
I could have sworn I saw him roll his eyes before he turned to look at me. "I said hop on and bring that bag." He jerked his head to the chair where I saw a bag. I didn't ask what it was for because I was too busy analyzing the fact that he wants me to get on his back.
I mean, he's big enough to let a person ride, sure, but...
He was already glaring at me with those golden eyes and I didn't have a choice but to climb off to his back. I have so many questions but i decided I could ask them later when he's less irritated.
"How are we supposed to-"
My words were cut off by a scream when he suddenly charged to the open window and out of the building. It was a good thing I was able to stifle the scream that came out of my mouth when suddenly, he leaped swiftly from the roof of the building to the ground. We were at the back of the school building where there are no windows but I was still terrified of being spotted. Imagine what kind of rumor is going to spread once someone sees me riding on top of a massive wolf.
He was moving swiftly and my hands went unconsciously to wrap around the ruff on his neck. The woods around us was a blur and maybe it was my hybrid senses but I could still see clearly. We were on our way to the town center. I don't think that's a good idea.
"How are you able to do this?" I asked as he slowed down a bit.
"Running? Learned it when I was about three."
"Asshole. You know that's not what I meant."
"Even with Laurent's knack for telling you stories about me, he didn't tell you?"
So he knew Laurent told me stories about him. About how he became an Alpha of his pack. "I am not sure. Are there different kinds of wolves? Can I do that too?"
"I came from a different line of wolves. My kind could transform not only during the full moon but also on normal days. Although we are more powerful during the full moon. Laurent and the others could only switch to their full wolf form during the full moon."
"When you say full wolf form, you mean with all those ruff and glowing red eyes?"
"Yes. In their human form, they have impeccable speed and healing abilities. But once they transform into their wolf form, they're stronger."
"Where are the other wolves who're the same as you?"
He was silent and I took that as a sign that he didn't want to answer the question. So I rode in silence and just held onto his ruff.
It probably only took us less than 20 minutes before we neared the town center. I got off his back and looked at him.
"I'm assuming you're going to transform back into your human form?"
Alaris looked at me. "Give me the bag."
I gave it to him without question and before I could even realize what he wanted to do, he transformed in front of me. Naked. As in fully naked. I was able to stop my traitorous eyes from roaming too far down and turned around immediately.
"You could have at least warned me!" I said and I heard him scoff followed by the sound of clothes rustling.
"In case you've forgotten, I am still a student and you are a teacher."
Another low chuckle came out of him as though it was the funniest thing I have ever said. "I'm not a teacher, Morgiana."
"Oh, right. Is that your way of easing what I heard last night? You're not a teacher so it's fine for you to do that?"
"Why was it so a big deal to you? You heard me fucking Ms. Mont. So what?"
I faced him and thank the gods he was already wearing pants. "So what? Not a big deal? Are you kidding me? That caused me a lot of discomfort."
"Wouldn't be uncomfortable for you if you did not get curious. Surely her moans should have told you a lot."
My jaw dropped at the brazenness of this man but I know I can't gain anything from fighting with him so I just let out a frustrated breath.
"Yeah. Whatever. So what, they can just inject me with blood and that would count as feeding, right?"
He looked at me as though I just said the stupidest thing ever. "That's not how it works." He wore his shirt and I restrained myself not to get too dazzled by him.
"What? How does it work, then?"
"I'll explain later. For now, we have to go."
"What exactly are we going to do? At least tell me that."
"I told you we're going to the hospital to get some blood."
"I don't have money for that."
"We're not buying it."
I have so many questions but Alaris don't seem to keen on answering them one by one and he looks like he was so close to choking me to death so I remained quiet and followed him.
When we neared the center, the streets were not so busy. This is a small town, anyway so it wasn't that surprising.
"How much of this town's population are wolves?" I asked while catching up with his pace.
"About ten percent."
"And witches?"
"Probably the same."
"And the rest are humans."
"And a hybrid."
I went silent at that. It was just recently revealed to me that I am a hybrid. A few days ago, I was supposed to die and yet here I am, walking alongside the man who was supposed to kill me. He could kill me anytime. He could change his mind anytime. And I might be a hybrid-a creature considered to be stronger than any other supernatural creature but against Alaris, I would be dead. No questions asked.
"If they discover I am a hybrid, what would happen to me?" I asked out of the blue and I didn't even realize I just said it out loud without realizing.
"If you were discovered, you'd be branded as something they'd like to know more about. The people who hunted Giro that night were planning to do something to him. I suspect they want the wolves for our venoms. I don't know what they're using it for but I could only say it's not for something good." He looked at me and then went on. "If they find out about you, they're going to do the same. Or they will worship you, consider you as what you are: the strongest supernatural creature."
"I don't feel strong, though."
"That's because some of your strength was put to sleep. A witch concealed your supernatural identity for eighteen years. By the time you neared that age was the only time we get to smell you."
"Because I was nearing eighteen?"
He nodded. "The age of maturity. I was able to smell you because the wolf blood is your dominant blood."
"Is that the reason why the vampires did not come for me?"
Alaris was silent for a moment and then he said, "That could be one of the reasons."
"What's the other reason?"
"Vampires can't come to our town. Not with the wolves present. But I think the main reason they did not come for you was that they did not smell you."
"If they happened to smell me, what would have happened?"
"They would want to kill you like what the wolves wanted to do. Or they will worship you and use you against the wolves."
My insides froze at the thought of war. Between wolves and vampires, I don't know who's going to win. I've seen how strong and massive wolves can be but after realizing the things I could do as a vampire, I could say vampires are strong too.
I couldn't say I was glad that Alaris found her first. He wanted me dead and just changed his mind because I save one of his own. If I hadn't done that...
I didn't finish the thought.
Alaris stopped walking and I realized we were already in front of the hospital.
I was about to say something when he started going in and I didn't have a choice but to follow. I was very aware of the stares the people were giving us. Or rather him. I mean, I did not get a crush on Alaris for no reason. The man is hot. That's probably the reason why Ms. Mont wanted him so badly.
The thought of Alaris fucking Ms. Mont filled my mind once again and I had to shake it.
"We're going inside, Morgiana. Focus."
I cleared my throat and nodded. The hallway was quiet and I don't know which part of the hospital we are but I followed him. He opened the door once we made sure no one was looking and then something came inside my head.
"You're not going to make me feed from a dead body, right? Because I would scream and bust us both."
Alaris just looked at me and shook his head. Once we were inside, a pleasant smell filled my nose so I stopped walking and just focused all my senses on that smell.
"What..." I trailed as I couldn't form the words. I looked at Alaris as he was walking towards a box that was on the corner. The room was cold and it made the smell fainter.
When Alaris opened the box, the smell intensified and I might have let out a gentle moan, savoring it. Then I remembered where I have smelled it from. I remember that girl's bleeding wrist. I remembered how pleasant it made me feel just to see and smell the blood.
"Is this... Are we..."
"Yes," Alaris said, answering my unsaid question. "We're stealing blood bags so you could feed."
