Biting her lip, Penelope said angrily, "If all else fails, I'll just wait by the door! Let's see if she can stop me from seeing my own father! "Sean, my mother left when I was very young." Penelope lowered her gaze and sniffled sadly. When she was young, she wondered why others had mothers when she didn't. Later, she realized that she wouldn't be able to will a mother into existence, so she stopped thinking about it. She purposely ignored the role of a mother in her life. So what if she didn't have one? Her life was fine. That all changed now that Joseph had a new woman in his life. Despite her feelings for Sean, given Penelope's usual behavior, she would have already lost her temper with Nora by now. The only reason she continued to give in to all of Nora's requests was because Nora was a mother. Penelope wanted to know how she and her mother would've interacted if her mother had still been around. She was trying to experience what it would be like to look after her own mother.
