Chapter 19
A white powder was scattered on the ground, and candles had been placed on both sides of the road. There was even a red cloth covering something square.
The most ridiculous part was the two middle-aged women in black robes seated in the middle of the road. Their hair fell messily past their shoulders, and there were red dots on their foreheads. They had their eyes shut as they chanted something.
This wasn't something Penelope could comprehend. What the hell was this?
Maureen looked around shiftily before pulling Penelope closer to her. "You're too young to understand, but I'm doing this for your good! Listen to me—ghosts and humans aren't meant to mingle, whether or not she's your relative. Your lifespan will be affected if you get her ghostly energy on you!"
She stuffed two talismans into Penelope's hand. "There's one each for you and your father. Just put it underneath your pillows for three days."
