Chapter 50
My smile froze as my phone slipped from my hand, hitting the floor with a loud clatter.
Darren asked, "What is it?"
I glanced at him in disbelief and even forgot to pick up my phone.
My voice trembled slightly, and my heart quickened as a feeling of fear filled my chest. "Lily is at my house."
The car fell into silence for a few seconds with only the sound of raindrops tapping against the windows.
"Don't worry. She won't harm your mom."
I noticed that he sped up despite his reassuring words. His grip on the steering wheel tightened as his veins nearly popped out.
I bent down to pick up my phone, remembering the message that Lily had sent me earlier. I dialed her number, and the call was answered almost instantly.
"Hello, Cassie." Her seemingly calm and gentle voice was laced with a hint of epicaricacy.
My heart pounded as I asked, "What are you doing at my house?"
She had the nerve to try to run me down the last time. Who knew what she might try to do this time?
