My smile froze as my phone slipped from my hand, hitting the floor with a loud clatter. Darren asked, "What is it?" I glanced at him in disbelief and even forgot to pick up my phone. My voice trembled slightly, and my heart quickened as a feeling of fear filled my chest. "Lily is at my house." The car fell into silence for a few seconds with only the sound of raindrops tapping against the windows. "Don't worry. She won't harm your mom." I noticed that he sped up despite his reassuring words. His grip on the steering wheel tightened as his veins nearly popped out. I bent down to pick up my phone, remembering the message that Lily had sent me earlier. I dialed her number, and the call was answered almost instantly. "Hello, Cassie." Her seemingly calm and gentle voice was laced with a hint of epicaricacy. My heart pounded as I asked, "What are you doing at my house?" She had the nerve to try to run me down the last time. Who knew what she might try to do this time? She wouldn't
