Pharrell's knees were shattered completely. Even if he survived, he'd likely be disabled for life.
The pain of a shattered kneecap was unimaginable, yet he simply knelt there, straight-backed and without making a sound. His dim eyes were fixed on me.
Both Helen and I knew that someone like him would never truly surrender. His words earlier were nothing more than a ploy to buy time. If it went according to the plan, our reinforcements would arrive soon.
"Well, was my sincerity enough?" His voice was calm, without the slightest tremor. He genuinely appeared as if he had surrendered.
"Do you trust me now, Ms. Stark?" he asked as he looked at me expressionlessly.
Half lying on the ground, Lily was barely breathing. But it didn't stop her from glaring and cursing at Pharrell furiously for betraying her.
Helen shook her head at me, signaling not to get close. She turned to tie Lily's hands and began dragging her toward the edge of the forest.
