After saying that, Mom let out a heavy sigh. "Your uncle and aunt really are pitiful."
I asked, "Did you ever meet Sebastian?"
She nodded, stroking her chin as she tried to recall. "I did meet him a few times. Most of the time, he was at school, and since I married your father and lived in the city, I only saw him occasionally during the holidays. I can't remember exactly what he looked like."

I feigned calmness and said, "I just happened to see some old photos in Uncle Giovani's study today."
