I replied to Arthur with another question, "Didn't you just get off your night shift, Dr. Winbloke? Is this your part-time job?"

We didn't say another word after that. After I finished my meal, I took my bag and left. A figure brushed past me, walking leisurely into the shop.
When I came home, Mom happened to return with a bag of groceries at the door. I stood up, ready to help her carry it, but she slapped my hand away. "Just sit tight."
My focus quickly landed on the bag, which was filled to the brim with fruits and greens. "Why did you buy so many? It's not even the first of the month yet."
The grocery store nearest to our place would have sales every first day of the month.
