I nodded obediently. After that, Donn stopped bringing up the topic of marriage. Instead, we talked about work and life.
The atmosphere between us was relaxed, with his tone carrying the kind of care a senior would show a junior. After we finished, he offered to drive me home, but I made an excuse about wanting to explore the area and said goodbye outside the restaurant.
As I wandered around the nearby office buildings, I felt like someone was watching me. Yet when I turned around quickly, I saw nothing unusual. I brushed it off, convincing myself that I was just being paranoid.
With that, I kept walking. I decided to get a feel for the area since I had been applying for jobs. Soon, it got dark, so I flagged down a cab to head home.
Glancing at the rearview mirror, I was startled to see the same car that had been following Donn and me earlier. A chill of fear crept over me, and I tightened my grip on the seatbelt.
