Chapter 2

After a few rounds of drinks, my friends all started complaining to me. "We all thought you'd completely forgotten about us after getting yourself a girlfriend. You're not allowed to do this again next time, understand?" I nodded and promised them I wouldn't. "Just call me out anytime you guys are meeting up again next time. I'll definitely be there." I'd put all of my focus and attention on Helena after we started dating. My work and life revolved around her all the time. However, I'd lost my own friends in the process. Now that I thought of it, it hadn't been a wise choice at all. I looked at my phone and saw that Helena had returned the money I sent her. It was 1:00 am by the time I finally went home. I turned on the lights in the living room and saw Helena waiting on the couch. I was shocked. For a moment, I thought I was seeing things. Helena saw me in my tipsy state, but she didn't come up to help me. Instead, a look of hate and disgust appeared on her face. She said with much disgust, "Mark Lovelace, can't you just man up? Just tell me if you're jealous. Drinking yourself to death like this will only make me despise you more." My head was spinning. I held on to the wall and slowly hobbled over to the dining chairs before taking a seat. Helena could smell the alcohol on me. She frowned lightly and said, "Didn't I tell you before that I hate it when you go drinking? "I'm not in the kind of relationship you think I am with Jaxon. Currently, we're just friends. You don't need to get drunk like this because of him." I held my head in my hand and said, "No, you're overthinking things. I went out drinking… because I wanted to." Helena's voice turned shrill when she saw me in my state. "That's enough. I've already explained things to you, so what else do you want me to do? Don't test my patience because I have my limits. I'm not some goddess who can tolerate this kind of behavior over and over again." My head only pounded even harder after listening to her shrill voice. I massaged my temples and said, "Don't get worked up. I'm going to sleep." Helena inhaled deeply and let out a long sigh when she saw me like that. Then, she simmered down and came forward to help me walk. However, I used the last of my sanity and consciousness to avoid her touch. I made it into the guest bedroom with wobbly feet and locked the door behind me. I didn't care that Helena kept knocking continuously at the door. I fell into a deep sleep right after. It was some of the best sleep I'd ever gotten in my life. When I woke up in the morning, Helena was watching TV in the living room and said nothing to me. Her face was as black as thunder. I knew that she was fuming. But, I didn't bother trying to cheer her up. Instead, I washed up and headed out right after.
