Elaine pouted, feeling more awake by the minute. She mumbled, "I just woke up, and now I can’t sleep. If my leg weren’t hurt, I’d want to get up and exercise." Wesley didn’t respond, so Elaine instinctively turned her head to look at him. Just as she turned, Wesley turned to face her. Their eyes met, and Elaine's breath caught in her throat. Even in the dim moonlight, Wesley saw that Elaine’s eyes were sparkling, filled with a mesmerizing shimmer that stirred his heart. They were close enough to feel each other’s breath. Feeling Wesley’s warm gaze, Elaine forgot how to speak and held her breath nervously. Wesley reached over Elaine’s shoulder and gently patted her back, like soothing a baby. "Relax your body," Wesley whispered. "Try to clear your mind. You might feel sleepy." Elaine blinked, soothed by Wesley’s gentle touch, like a cat being petted. She couldn’t help but ask, "How do I clear my mind?" "Think about something relaxing," Wesley suggested. "Okay," Elaine agreed.
