Chapter 76: Strangers
Sally sighed softly, seemingly unwilling to explain much. She turned her head slightly, gazing into the distance, her voice carrying a barely perceptible weariness, “Some things aren’t as simple as they appear on the surface. I have my reasons for choosing this place.”
Hearing this, Emily felt a mix of emotions. She remembered the argument they had over a misunderstanding, after which they had lost contact.
Emily opened her mouth, wanting to say something comforting, but Sally interrupted her.
“Stop, stop, stop. If you’re going to give me a long lecture, save it. You don’t have the right to interfere in my life anymore,” Sally’s words were sharp, like needles pricking Emily’s heart.
Emily’s good intentions were thus forcefully blocked. She took a deep breath, trying to calm the turmoil in her heart, and said from a different angle, “I’m not trying to interfere. If you need help, I can help you find a better job opportunity…”
