Chapter 5 Let's Get Married
Megan's gaze suddenly collided with Joseph's cold gaze, his pupils contracted slightly.
She lowered her head, whispering in a voice only the two of them could hear, "I save your brain and leg. You give me your ring."
After saying that, she forcefully pulled off the ring and discreetly put it in her own pocket.
Joseph widened his eyes, wanting to snatch back the ring, but his injuries were too severe and he fainted once again.
Megan instructed the surgical assistant, "Administer anesthesia and prepare for surgery."
Five hours later.
The entire operating room was quiet, with only the sound of instruments.
Everyone looked at Megan, who was performing the final sutures, with shock and admiration in their eyes.
She had successfully completed two highly difficult surgeries at the same time, and they were incredibly successful. It was unbelievable!
Megan handed the scissors and suture thread to the surgical assistant and said, "You can handle the rest."
After speaking, she left the operating room.
Instead of leaving through the main door, she walked through the staff passage and went to the director's office.
"The surgery was successful. If Joseph asks, just mention my name. If anyone else asks, please keep it confidential, Director."
"Megan, thank you for agreeing to the recording of the surgery. It's a valuable asset in the medical field. Would you be interested in becoming a visiting professor at our hospital? You don't have to work regular hours. You can choose to take on surgeries or not."
Megan was well aware that no matter how good the director's words sounded, if she agreed, she would be putting on an invisible shackle.
"No, but if your hospital has difficult surgeries in the future and I'm available, I will consider taking them on."
Her rejection was within the director's expectations.
"Alright, looking forward to seeing you again."
The director handed a check to Megan,
Megan glanced at the check for 50,000 and refused, "I have already received payment from Joseph. Bye."
When she came out of the director's office, it was already dark outside.
The stars in the sky were particularly bright, just like her current mood.
Megan touched the ring in her pocket and smiled slightly.
She took out her phone and saw dozens of missed calls, all from Emily.
There were also dozens of threatening messages from four members of the Johnson.
She glanced through them briefly.
If she doesn't marry Myles, Hannah would die.
She ignored them and went to Hannah's ward.
But she was blocked outside the ward by Kane.
Kane, the eldest son of the Johnson, was spoiled by his patriarchal parents. He was foolish and arrogant.
He raised his chin slightly, exuding an air of arrogance, as if talking to Megan was a gift to her.
"Don't play any tricks, otherwise, Hannah will die!"
Megan nodded, worried about waking up Hannah.
"I know what to do."
Seeing her being so obedient, Kane became even more arrogant.
"When you meet Myles, ask him for more money."
The Johnson would be an aristocratic family, soon.
"OK."
Kane failed to notice that Megan was speaking sarcastically. He was already envisioning himself as a wealthy heir.
"Myles's birthday is in a week. He will host a banquet. I'll send you the location then. Dress up and arrive on time."
"I see."
Kane was very satisfied with Megan's obedience and happily whistled as he left.
After checking on Hannah, Megan left the hospital and went back to her apartment.
The first thing she did was take out Dragon Seal, intending to take out the antidote inside for testing.
If there were no problems, she would give it to Hannah.
However, she couldn't find a way to open the ring.
She didn't dare to use force, fearing it would destroy the antidote.
Megan looked at the ring in frustration.
It seemed that she could only rely on Joseph.
She put the ring away and went to take a bath.
Joseph woke up the next day when it was still dim outside.
The first thing he did was use his left index finger to touch his thumb, and the ring was gone.
Before the surgery, what he heard and saw, it wasn't a dream!
Megan!
Although he was foggy-headed at the time and she was wearing a mask, he couldn't have misheard her voice.
He whispered, "Oliver."
The faint voice could only be heard by himself.
Fortunately, Oliver was by his side, and he quickly noticed that Joseph had woken up.
After a series of examinations, the attending physician said, "Your injuries are severe. Avoid using your brain and legs for now. Get plenty of rest.
The doctor who performed the surgery on you was amazing. If it were anyone else from the hospital, they wouldn't have been able to save your leg."
When Joseph was brought to the hospital, even though he was in a coma, he was conscious.
He knew that the attending physician was telling the truth. If it wasn't for Megan, he would have been in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
But compared to being in a wheelchair, the ring was more important!
"Give me my phone, I want to make a call."
He must retrieve the ring before meeting his family.
The attending doctor opened the drawer of the bedside table and handed the cracked phone to Joseph.
Although the phone screen was broken, it still worked.
He contacted Megan directly.
-
Soon, Megan's voice came through the receiver.
"You woke up much earlier than I expected, see you later."
After she finished speaking, she hung up the phone.
At this time, Megan was in Hannah's ward, having breakfast with her.
On the bedside table, there was a new meal box.
Hannah curiously asked, "Megan, who is this for?"
"A friend who happens to be staying in this hospital, too."
"Boyfriend?"
"Just a friend."
"Bring him to me."
Megan smiled helplessly, "Grandma, please don't misunderstand, he is just a friend."
"Go and deliver breakfast to your friend."
"Okay, I'll come back soon."
Megan took the meal box and went to Joseph's room.
"This is vegetable porridge, specially prepared for you as an apology for snatching your ring."
Joseph looked coldly at Megan, "Give me back."
"I can give you the ring, can you give me the antidote inside? My grandma is sick and needs the antidote to save her life."
Upon hearing this, Joseph knew why Megan had come to him.
"Don't you know how to take out the antidote?"
Megan said honestly, "No."
"I can't give you the antidote. Give me back the ring, and I can pretend nothing happened, otherwise I will call the police."
"I saved you twice, and you want to arrest me?"
Joseph didn't want to complicate things with Megan too much.
"Dragon Seal is a heirloom of the Martinez family, and the antidote inside cannot be used by outsiders, sorry."
"If it can't be used by outsiders, can it be used by family members?"
After hesitating for a moment, Joseph honestly said, "The head of the family has the right to use it when necessary."
Megan immediately had an idea, "Joseph, let's get married."
