"It’s different; my mom made this!" Alan reached out and took one of the pieces, genuinely preparing to eat it.
I pouted, "So, you don't like sweets because I made them?"
I wasn't asking; I was stating it plainly.
Alan's hand, holding the knife and fork, paused slightly. He glanced at me, then lowered his head, silently taking small bites of the cake.
I didn’t press the issue. After all, it was so obvious that there wasn’t much to argue about.
The two of us fell into silence.
Before Alan could finish the cake, his phone rang.
He looked at the screen, frowned, but still answered.
"It’s just a part-time job, do you really need to shout at me about it?"
"If you're short on money, just say so. There's no need to work as a gofer in some film crew."
I was just eating cake, but I unexpectedly overheard something related to me.
