Chapter 68 Backing Down
After returning home, Lucas told Owen and Everlyn about forming an alliance with Lydia.
Owen's expression turned serious, and there was a hint of caution in his eyes. "Can Lydia be trusted?" he asked.
Lucas remained calm, his voice brimming with confidence. "Don't worry, Dad. I have my ways to keep her in line."
Seeing the certainty in Lucas's expression, Owen's doubts vanished instantly. "Even so, we must be cautious in dealing with Harrison," he warned.
Lucas nodded. "Exactly. That's why I came back to discuss this with you both."
Sitting nearby, Evelyn looked pale and sickly. She would occasionally cough, which added to her frail and weary appearance. Since the family dinner, the arrogance she once carried had faded. Now, only a lingering depression and gloom remained.
Noticing her silence, Lucas asked, "Evelyn, what do you think?"
Evelyn coughed a few times before speaking in a weak voice, "I don't have any thoughts right now," she said. "And I don't want to keep fighting
