"And you never really hear what I say when I speak the truth. Knowing that you don’t want to hear it, it’s just typical of you. This doesn’t even surprise me anymore. Get the fuck out of my office, and I mean it."
I reached for my phone, but Maeve didn’t flinch.
"Do you have anything else to say?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady. "And make it something beyond the fact that Charlotte came from foster care. She’s made something of herself, unlike you, who leeches off your parents."
Maeve opened her mouth to respond, but before she could say anything, the door swung open behind me. I didn’t need to turn around to know who it was. The heavy, deliberate footsteps told me everything I needed to know.
"Damien," my father’s voice rang out, cold and sharp.
I clenched my jaw, turning to face him. His imposing figure filled the doorway, his eyes narrowed in disappointment.
"Father," I said flatly.
He stepped into the room, his gaze sweeping over me before settling on Maeve
