Monday came with an edge of hope that I hadn’t felt since the mess of Friday night. Maybe, just maybe, Charlotte would show up to work. Maybe she had taken the weekend to think things over, and we could talk—really talk—and sort this out.
Of course, I wasn’t going to discount the fact that I had called her at least twenty times over the weekend, hoping she would pick up and perhaps show up at work today. But hey, it was the little things that mattered, right? Throughout the day, however, she was not in the office. At least I could spot her by leaving my office on the top floor, coming down to her floor, and waiting outside her office like a lovesick puppy. Of course, her finding out meant quite a lot of other people within the department had found out too, especially the nasal-toned Mindy, who was an audience. I still remember her name. Now that was a certain human being I didn’t want to see.
