Mateo didn't need to look at the wine case twice to know that it was indeed the wine case he had sent to Mr. Sebastian de la Cruz, three days after he came back to Navarre.
" That the note was found in it does not mean that I'm the one that wrote it?" He said, pushing the picture back to Detective Hernandez.
Detective Hernandez chuckled.
The man was smart, he had to give him that. Understood what he was insinuating with the snap of a finger.
" Besides," Mateo continued. " Mr. Sebastian hated me calling him Uncle; you might as well ask Mrs. Cruz."
" You must have written it to get on his nerves then," Detective Hernandez deduced. " You..."
"That is just your assumption, Detective Hernandez. I. Have. No. Issues. With. Mr. Sebastian."
Detective Hernandez was not fazed by the coldness of his voice. " You seem not to know that Mr. Sebastian lost his sight."
With his eyes aimed sharply on Mateo's face, Detective Hernandez saw the quick flash of surprise on the younger man's face.
