Mateo's eyes met the female paramedic's, and some thing akin to empathy bloomed there.
I must look like a ghost, Mateo thought. That would be the explanation for why the paramedic was looking at him as if he was some homeless puppy that she found in the street.
" Oh dear," she said softly. " You must have been shocked to see that."
Mateo winced as a shrill ring sounded in his ears.
He pressed the heel of his palm to the area between his eyes.
" Do you need to sit?" The paramedic asked.
Mateo looked up just in time to see that she was about to knock on the hotel door of the room opposite Mr. Fernandez's.
" It's fine," he called out, his voice hoarse. He cleared it. " He pointed to RM 307, the one beside Mr. Fernandez's. " I have a room."
The paramedics mouth formed an 'O'. Mateo popped open the first two buttons of his suit shirt as he had began to feel restricted in them.
