Chapter 97: Letting Slip
Faisal was furious. Both Morris and his son Nick treated the law like a joke, doing whatever they pleased. He stormed out of the office, about to turn a corner when he overheard some colleagues talking.
"Do you think that woman's death has anything to do with Nick?"
"I don't think so."
"But I passed by yesterday and heard that woman cursing Nick, saying he was untrustworthy and that even in death, she wouldn't let him off."
Faisal furrowed his brow. Why would Hazel say such things about Nick before she died? And what did she say to him when she met Nick alone before confessing? What deal did they make?
Unable to understand, he left the police station, found a safe place, and dialed Nick's number.
It rang for about ten seconds before someone answered.
"Hello, who's this?"
"It's me," Faisal replied.
There was a moment of silence before the voice on the other end asked, "Another case for me to cooperate with?"
The word "another" choked Faisal.
