Samantha noticed a faint stutter in Xander's voice, as though he was holding back emotion. She guessed that her father's attitude had hurt Xander's feelings.
Holding back a laugh, she gently reassured him, "Don't overthink it. It's not that bad. My dad may have a sharp tongue, but he's soft-hearted.
