Chapter 9 Demi Doesn't Have Any Parents
After a short pause, Demi smiled dryly and replied in a calm tone, "I don't have any parents."
The shift in her expression had been so brief that it seemed like a hallucination. Yet, both the staff members and the livestream viewers had picked up on it.
Margaret, who was leaning on Timothy to stand, widened her eyes in confusion.
Why did Demi say that? Her parents were still alive, and they were extremely rich as well.
It wasn't good for her to lie to a TV station, right?
According to Margaret's understanding, only TV stations were capable of filming shows.
The staff member quickly apologized, "I'm sorry."
Demi's voice was light as she replied, "It's alright."
The viewers left comments again.
"The vicious gal doesn't have parents? Is she an orphan?"
"Why is she so pitiful? Should we stop attacking her?"
"Suddenly, I don't feel comfortable going after her."
"Why should you feel that way? So what if she's pitiful? There are still things to hate about her! Think about all the horrible things she's done in the past."
Hence, the viewers started furiously stating all the terrible things Demi had ever done. For example, she had once taken up a seat despite an elderly woman in her 70s standing before her. Besides that, she had also deliberately tripped a rookie actress and snatched other people's roles from them.
Additionally, she had even hired someone to secretly capture a picture of herself leaning toward an A-list actor while talking and then spread it on the Internet.
The viewers remarked, "She's vile!"
"Even if she's an orphan, that's not an excuse for her to act however she wants."
After briefly capturing the courtyard, Demi brought the staff members away.
She patted Timothy's head gently and said softly, "Take good care of Grandma, alright? I'll be back in two days."
Timothy remained quiet and nodded.
They headed to their destination in a SUV. The staff member briefly introduced their destination and the rules of the show. They even put on a video that was a cursory introduction of the other guests.
Demi had never kept up with celebrities, and the television in Margaret's home was broken. So, she was extremely unfamiliar with the entertainment industry.
She had been in the world of cultivation for 300 years as well, and apart from her personal matters, her other memories were hazy.
Hence, Demi watched the video closely and searched them on her phone as well.
She looked extremely focused, as if she was completing her homework. A few days ago, she had registered for an identification card and a bank card. She had even bought a smartphone at a cheaper price.
After obtaining her permission, the cameraman showed her phone screen.
Comments left by the viewers poured in.
"This can't be real. Isn't this vicious gal going overboard? It's fine if she doesn't know any of the rookies, but it's impossible that she has no idea about the A-listers and movie stars."
"She's part of the industry herself! It's so obvious that she's a performative person."
"Am I the only one who has noticed that her phone is only a hundred dollars?"
"It's so obvious that this is all an act. She's acting like she's poor!"
The staff member looked at the reactions of the viewers and then at Demi before asking curiously, "Ms. Demi, which guest are you most familiar with?"
Demi paused in her scrolling. She knew Thomas Pitt and Ana Pitt the best.
Yet, she shook her head. "I don't know any of them that well."
The viewers were enraged.
"She's doing too much!"
"She's going insane with this!"
The staff relaxed upon seeing the unpleasant comments. After all, they would only gain traction if controversy was present.
A harmonious environment would never achieve the same effect.
The SUV brought Demi to the foot of a mountain. Then, she got out of the car and looked around.
The other guests had yet to arrive.
She understood the rules of the industry well. The big stars were usually the last to show up. As a relatively unknown actress, it was only natural that she was the first one there.
After a short while, another car arrived. The next guest was a handsome young man who was dressed in trendy clothes. His hair was even a modern shade of gray.
Since she had just done her research, Demi knew that he was the winner of an extremely popular survival show. His name was Chad Musk, and he was 20 years old.
Chad was an excellent singer, and he was apparently of mixed-blood, with both Kinlat and Cartro descent. He was born in a different country before heading to Kinlat to become a trainee. Then, he made his debut in Cartro.
They greeted each other, "Hello, it's a pleasure to meet you."
They introduced themselves to each other before making small talk.
Chad gave Demi the impression that he was humble, well-behaved, and polite. As he spoke to her, he made eye contact, and there was a gentle touch in his eyes.
One viewer exclaimed, "Oh, that's my baby!"
Chad's fans started to worry as they left comments on the livestream.
"Baby, you can't get too close to this vicious gal. Be careful, or you'll be dragged down with her."
"Chad, she might plot a scheme against you!"
Yet, Chad still made small talk with Demi, not sensing anything amiss.
Then, another SUV appeared in the midst of their awkward conversation.
A man and a woman got out of the car. Demi gave them a look before her eyes darted away.
She stared at the scenery beside her with a cold gaze.
