Chapter 6 Have Demi Clean the Dirty Shoes
The man noticed Demi's gaze and stared back at her.
Demi found herself facing a pair of deep, cold eyes. She quickly realized that staring at someone like that was impolite, so she swiftly averted her gaze.
The man also immediately withdrew his gaze.
"You guys should have another child while you're still young," the man said into the phone.
When Demi heard the voice coming from the car behind her, she couldn't help but tilt her head.
Why did she feel like she had seen that man before? He seemed so familiar…
Moreover, she kept feeling like he was someone important to her. But why couldn't she recall who he was?
She couldn't help but turn back and look at that man again. Demi had keen senses, and even from a distance, she could still clearly see the man's face.
It wasn't until the car drove away that she snapped back to reality.
Who exactly was that? Was it just a mistaken feeling, or did she really know him?
Demi spent the rest of the journey lost in her thoughts, yet she still couldn't recall.
Then again, it had been 300 years. Even if she did know him, it was entirely possible that she had forgotten who he was.
…
It wasn't until Demi almost returned home that she remembered something very important. She had forgotten to ask Ana to return the protective charm necklace that Margaret had given her.
It had somehow slipped out from her collar when she had gotten out of the car. When Ana saw it, she had immediately reached out to take it from her. "Hey, what's that? Let me see."
"It's my protective charm," Demi had replied.
She didn't want to give it to Ana because it was a gift from Margaret. It felt wrong to just let someone else touch it.
But Michelle wasn't pleased by her refusal. She had asked, "Isn't it just a necklace? What's the big deal with letting Annie take a look? Are you afraid it won't be returned? I've told you many times that you need to stop being so petty!"
As she didn't want to upset Michelle, Demi had reluctantly taken it off and handed it to Ana.
Then, Ana had just put it on and never returned it, even after a long time.
Demi had wanted to ask Ana back for it, but she had felt too embarrassed to speak up. She thought that Ana would eventually take it off and give it back to her after a while.
At that time, Demi was always used to trying to please the Pitts and was too scared to upset them. Looking back, she felt extremely foolish.
And then, the car accident happened.
The necklace had stayed on her mind for the past 300 years. Every time she thought about it, it felt like there was a lump stuck in her throat.
The next time she saw Ana, she would definitely get it back.
Demi made a silent reminder to herself.
…
After giving Margaret some needling therapy, Demi returned to her room and decided to tidy it up a bit.
Although Margaret had cleaned and organized the house well, it had been so long that Demi had forgotten where she put some of her things—like just now, when she had to use her Divine Sense to find clothes to wear.
She also needed to sort out which items were usable and which weren't.
Their house was small and had few things. Demi was highly efficient, so it didn't take long to tidy up.
"Hmm? What's this?" Demi blinked in surprise, holding an emerald figurine.
Given her previous situation, she wouldn't have had such a valuable item. She carefully examined the emerald figurine. It had straight, sharp brows, twinkling eyes, and a serious expression, but the carving was slightly rough.
Who would be so extravagant as to use top-quality emeralds to practice their carving skills?
Of course, when Demi referred to "top-quality", she meant in this world. Back in the world of cultivation, the emerald in her hand couldn't even be compared.
But that didn't matter now. The important question was, how did such an expensive emerald figurine end up in her cabinet? Did Margaret put it in there sometime later on?
She would ask Margaret once she woke up.
As Demi placed the emerald figurine back into its box, her gaze glazed over slightly.
Why did the emerald figurine's face look familiar?
She tilted her head in confusion.
Was it because she had just returned to this world? Why did everything feel familiar, yet she couldn't remember?
…
When Michelle and the others returned to the Pitt residence in Lynora City, they found that Stephen and Harold were already back.
Michelle asked with a hint of excitement, "Honey, do you know who we ran into in Lindton?"
The reason Michelle was so excited was because she could clear her name. Not only had the police treated her as a murder suspect, but her husband also had many complaints and dissatisfaction against her. Even her own sons were unhappy with her.
After all, she was the one who had closed the car door, resulting in everything that had happened to be her fault.
Since Demi wasn't dead, Michelle could finally clear her name.
"Who did you run into?" Stephen asked without even lifting his head. He was still focused on the newspaper in his hand, looking uninterested.
"We ran into Demi," Michelle said, emphasizing each word clearly.
Stephen paused, his hand gripping the newspaper. He quickly turned to look at Michelle, who approached him.
"Who? Demi? You saw Demi?" Stephen asked, afraid he had misheard.
"That's right, honey." Michelle then described what had happened in detail.
Daniel added, "Later, I chased after her with Thomas, but it seemed like she really resented us and didn't want to come back with us."
"She definitely thinks I did it on purpose!" Michelle showed a hurt expression. "How could she think that? I'm her biological…"
The word "mother" was unsaid as, at that moment, a set of hurried footsteps sounded. The youngest son of the Pitt family, Robert Pitt, ran down the stairs.
Michelle immediately stopped what she was about to say.
Robert was young and had a capricious personality, which was why the Pitt family didn't tell him about Demi's and Ana's real identities. He was the only one in the family who didn't know the truth.
Daniel's gaze flickered slightly as he thought about what his mother had just said.
He had already asked Thomas about his conversation with Demi, so he knew that Demi thought they were only interested in accompanying Ana for contract negotiations and weren't actually heartbroken.
Daniel reflected on this for a moment. Maybe their expressions really did seem like they didn't care about Demi.
After all, misunderstandings couldn't have formed overnight—their countless similar actions might have made Demi feel that they had intentionally wanted to kill her.
"By the way, where's Demi? It's been two days, and I haven't seen her! I'm craving the food she cooks," Robert remarked casually as he came down the stairs.
The Pitt family stiffened for a moment.
"Demi had to go home because of some things," Daniel explained.
"Call her, and tell her to hurry back! My special pair of limited-edition sneakers got dirty. She's so meticulous; she cleans clothes and shoes the best! I can only trust her to do it," Robert said matter-of-factly.
