But just as I hung up, he called again. He was really persistent.

He didn't press further, but the look in his eyes made it clear he had already pieced the truth. I couldn't even bring myself to meet his gaze during dinner.
Just before we parted ways, he said, "Nance, it doesn't matter who you're seeing. What's important is to follow your heart and find your happiness."
"I'm really not seeing anyone. I—" I started to explain, but Josh was already smiling and waving goodbye.
