To Jonah, I was a wonderful person. He liked me, respected me, and cherished me. Even his family and friends treated me with warmth and respect. Yet here I was, cheeks flushed and knees weak from an encounter with another man in an elevator.
How could I possibly live up to this ideal image Jonah had of me? How could I even consider myself worthy of becoming Mrs. Fernandez? I lowered my head to wash my hands, avoiding both his intense gaze and the uncomfortable subject.
Sensing my discomfort, Jonah didn't push the topic any further and quickly changed the subject to keep the mood light.
"Ms. Nancy, we've got eggs, bacon, zucchini, and mushrooms. I'm pretty familiar with these ingredients. How about bacon, pancakes, and sautéed vegetables for dinner?"
"That sounds perfect. I'll leave it all to you," I replied with a chuckle.
Jonah had clearly noticed my change in mood and was trying to cheer me up. But even his kindness couldn't fully lift the weight pressing on my heart.
