Ms. Fisher, you've got a good eye," Maeve said. She had a sharp eye and seemed to know what I was thinking. "This is one of the best dishes we have here. We'll prepare it for you in a bit."
I felt rather awkward, so I quickly refused. "No thanks. Uncle Jackson's still at the hospital. I won't be having lunch here, but I promise I'll drop by to try your cooking sometime."
"There are caretakers at the hospital. Besides, I've already told the cook to prepare it for you. You should take some back for Jason," Maeve wasn't about to give in.
She was much more welcoming than I had expected. "Don't worry. Just have your lunch here."
I remembered that my relationship with Cindy wasn't that pleasant these days, so I tried to turn down Maeve's offer once again.
"Uncle Jackson prefers solitude. He'll feel awkward if he's surrounded by strangers," I said. "I'm really worried about him."
