Chapter 129
What I didn't expect was that the incoming call was from Queenie.
My intuition told me it wasn't anything good.
Suddenly, I remembered the unexpected encounter with Bruce and John at noon. If my hunch was correct, then the person who had relayed the message to them must have been her.
After a moment of hesitation, I took a deep breath and answered the call.
In the next instant, the boisterous clamor of a bar invaded my ears.
"Ms. Fisher, are you feeling any better? We're having a gathering at our bar this evening. Care to join us for a drink?"
Queenie must have thought I was something special.
Anyone with some medical understanding would know that it was advisable to avoid alcohol after experiencing an ankle injury.
Queenie undoubtedly knew that. She was simply attempting to make things difficult for me.
Before this, I had still been trying to maintain a hopeful outlook on our partnership, so I had repeatedly tolerated her provocations. However, things were no longer the same.
