It seemed I had relaxed too soon. After Douglas' departure, I had to deal with Bruce, the final boss level.
I slowly turned around and met his gloomy and resentful eyes before hearing him ask, "Nancy, are you seriously defending him?"
I understood where his dissatisfaction came from. Douglas struck first, yet I didn't bother to stop him. Instead, I only did so when Bruce fought back. In the end, I even urged Douglas to leave amid Bruce's distraction.
No matter how one looked at it, it would appear that I was protecting Douglas, thus Bruce's displeasure. Yet, in reality, I wasn't trying to protect him. I simply didn't want to make it into a big deal and create more trouble for myself.
I couldn't bother to explain myself and allowed Bruce to let his thoughts run wild. If this turned into a huge misunderstanding between us and drove him away, I wouldn't complain.
