Xavier felt a fire ignite in his chest, leaving him intensely anxious. He noticed Miranda's lips move as if she wanted to say something more, but he silenced her with a kiss. He couldn't let her continue. He had a feeling that what she was about to say was something he absolutely didn't want to hear. Miranda's entire body went rigid. Over the seven years they had been together, they had kissed countless times. Each time, she had responded with passion. Xavier knew all too well what a woman's enthusiasm signified. So, her current indifference both angered and frightened him. Suddenly, Miranda pushed him away and landed a sharp slap across his face. "Are you done? You're the one who didn't want to get married but refuses to let go. Yet here you are, acting like you're the victim! Don't make me hate you, Xavier!" Miranda panted. Her eyes became red-rimmed. Xavier shut his eyes tightly. The car fell into an uncomfortable silence. After what felt like an eternity, he said hoarsely,
