Xavier's words made it clear there was no room for discussion.
Yovanna bit her lip, her expression darkening. However, Xavier ignored her. As she watched them leave, looking like a picture-perfect family, a wave of dread washed over her.
Rebecca gave Xavier her address, and he entered it into the navigation system.
When they arrived, Rebecca declined Miranda's offer to walk her upstairs. She jumped out of the car and said, "Goodbye Miranda."
Her eyes brimmed with tears, though the darkness obscured them.
Miranda's expression shifted slightly. This goodbye felt different. She waved and remained silent.
After watching Rebecca enter the house, Miranda closed the door behind her.
Xavier glanced at her in the rearview mirror and said flatly, "Why don't you come sit up front?"
"I'd prefer to sit in the back," Miranda replied, shaking her head.
"Don't make me repeat myself." His voice had an edge of anger.
