I replied weakly, "It won't affect me much, but I won't allow Linden Group's stock to be shorted like this."
Feeling restless and troubled, I mulled it over before finally giving Jeremiah a call. He picked up quickly, and the first thing he asked was, "Elijah isn't dead, is he?"
I paused. "No, he's not."
Jeremiah let out a relieved sigh. "Good, as long as he's alive."
Unable to hold back, I asked, "What should we do now? Is the Zanders family behind this?"
As I spoke, a surge of resentment welled up inside me.
If Penelope was targeting both Wood Group and Linden Group's stock prices simply because of unrequited love, then it could be chalked up to bitterness and greed. But if she deliberately orchestrated an accident just to profit from it, that would be pure malice.
Jeremiah thought for a moment before replying coldly, "She probably wouldn't dare."
My voice rose. "Wouldn't dare? You know she's desperate, right? So why would she dare?"
Jeremiah fell silent, seemingly at a loss
