I didn't feel like my status had changed. I just felt lighter as if leaving the past behind had lifted a weight off my shoulders.
That afternoon, as I was about to head to work, Jeremiah called. He must've just woken up, his voice lazy and slurred. "Ms. York, the contract will be sent to you today. Sign it quickly."
I was surprised. "Shouldn't you meet with Logan first?"
He let out a regretful sigh, "Oh, right, I forgot."

I thought for a moment and decided to schedule the meeting myself.
That evening, Logan came to pick me up. Once I got in the car, I explained Jeremiah's request.
He adjusted his glasses and said slowly, "You actually agreed to that? Don't you know what kind of person he is?"
I gave him a placating smile. "I know, which is why I'm handing it off to you. Otherwise, I won't be able to sell my shares."
