A guttural roar erupted from Damian. It was harsh and dry, like a rusty harmonica long past its prime.
Shirley immediately rushed to him, wrapping her arms around his small, frail body. "Damian, look at me. It's okay. Everything is over. No one will ever hurt you again…"
But Damian seemed to not hear her. He struggled desperately, grabbing the drawing and easel. He smashed them onto the ground, stomping on them with all his strength.
His face turned red, veins bulging out like a wild beast in a rage. His little hands clawed at Shirley's arm, causing waves of pain to shoot through her.
But Shirley dared not loosen her grip, afraid he might hurt himself. She tried to calm him down, her voice shaking. "Damian, look at me. Do you remember what you promised me?"
But it was no use. Damian didn't seem to register her words. He grabbed her hand and bit down hard, using all his strength.
