CHAPTER FORTY SIX – TODAY IS NOT MY DAY

The next few days were a blur of stress and setbacks for Deonna. Every time she thought she'd gotten ahead of the sabotage, something else would go wrong. Files would disappear, meetings would be rescheduled without her knowledge, and whispered rumors seemed to follow her everywhere. One particularly trying afternoon, Deonna found herself in the bathroom, splashing cold water on her face and trying to fight back waves of nausea. Whether it was from the stress or early pregnancy symptoms, she wasn't sure. As she straightened up, she caught sight of her reflection in the mirror. Dark circles shadowed her eyes, and her usually immaculate appearance was decidedly disheveled. "Come on, Deonna," she whispered to herself. "You can do this. You have to do this."
