Chapter 269 - Ties That Bind
After several failed attempts, Nolan stepped in. "Here, let me show you a trick."
He took the kite from Logan and held it high above his head. "Kayla, sweetheart, I want you to count to three and then run as fast as you can. Okay?"
Kayla nodded, her face scrunched up in determination.
"One... two... three!"
As Kayla took off, Nolan gave the kite a skillful toss. To everyone's amazement, it caught the wind perfectly, soaring up into the sky.
"I did it!" Kayla shrieked, jumping up and down. "Look, Mom! Dad! I did it!"
Logan clapped his father on the back. "Still got it, eh, Dad?"
Nolan grinned. "Never doubt your old man, son."
For the next hour, they took turns flying the kite, with Nolan offering tips and tricks. Even Deonna, who had initially been content to watch, got in on the action, surprising everyone with her natural talent.
As the afternoon wore on, they returned to the blanket for some rest and refreshments. Kayla, exhausted from all the running, curled up next to Nola
