As the day wound down and Patricia left with promises of future playdates, Logan and Deonna found themselves exhausted but relieved. The crisis wasn't over, but they felt more equipped to face it together.
That night, as they tucked Kayla into bed, the little girl's eyes were wide with curiosity.
"Daddy," she said, her voice small in the dimly lit room, "why was that man so angry today?"
Logan exchanged a glance with Deonna before sitting on the edge of Kayla's bed. "Well, sweetheart, sometimes people get very upset when things don't go their way. But that doesn't make it okay to scare other people or try to hurt them."
Kayla nodded solemnly. "Like when Tommy took my crayon at school, and I got mad, but I didn't hit him?"
Deonna smiled, stroking Kayla's hair. "That's right, honey. You handled that very well."
"But Daddy," Kayla persisted, "why did things not go his way? Did you do something bad to him?"
