Melanie stared at the spot where Aurora's silhouette had disappeared, her gaze lingering long after she was gone. It took her a long time to snap out of it, and she slowly lowered her eyes as she sat in heavy silence.
Just then, her phone buzzed, pulling her out of her thoughts. She answered it, only to hear Keaton's cold, cutting tone on the other end. "Why did you stir up trouble with Flint? You made this mess, so you clean it up yourself—"
Melanie didn't even wait for him to finish. She ended the call with a sharp press of the button, her expression calm but distant.
Her gaze fell on the faint water marks left on the table from Aurora's writing earlier. A deep sense of sorrow welled up inside her. The bold, unrestrained man who had once been as free as the wind was now... gone.
When the news of his death had first reached her, it had shattered her. She had locked herself in her office for days, trying to pull herself together. She hadn't even been able to grieve for him
