Chapter 6
I wouldn't have described my life as smooth sailing, but abduction was definitely a first. I wasn't from a rich family or anyone powerful. I wasn't exactly worthy of being abducted!
I was woken up by someone splashing water on me. My surroundings were dark—I was probably in a basement of sorts. The ice-cold water made me shiver, and I had to open my eyes wide to look at the person before me.
I didn't recognize him, but I saw my father standing behind him. He looked as despicable as ever.
A trace of cruelty flashed across my father's face when he saw I was awake. He seemed to want to pounce on me and teach me a lesson but didn't dare act rashly. He was clearly afraid of the daunting air the guy standing before him exuded.
"Are you Lena Fairchild?" the man asked.
I shrunk back, not daring to make a sound. The guy exuded the indifference and dominance of someone far above others. He wasn't someone I could afford to offend.
